Very few people design their own house, due to lack of skill, experience or time.  Garden design should be thought of in the same way. A garden designer will consider all the different elements – for example, hard landscaping, planting, legal aspects, irrigation, lighting. These things need to work together to make a garden with soul.  AI and technology can be of help, but will not give the depth, personal relationship or creativity of a good garden designer.

Projects vary. Costs of site clearance and hard landscaping change. Some people recommend you think of 10% of the value of the property for a full garden design and build - but it really depends on your available funds and how much you are prepared to invest. Designs can be phased and we can also do part of the process – for example a planting plan and then setting out the planting, if the hard landscaping is already as you want it.  I can also offer a consultation service if required.

I expect to complete a site visit and concept stage in 4-6 weeks. The timescale for the master layout plan will depend on the size and complexity of the garden. Securing a landscaper and the build is less predictable. It is worth considering a full design as a year long project – it is good to take time over such a special thing as a garden design. I will try to give as realistic a timescale as possible at the beginning of our work together.

I am a designer, so I take your hopes and dreams and turn those into a buildable design. I will help you find a good landscaper who will build the garden if you would like help with that. I then return to your garden to set out the plants according to the agreed planting plan, once the hard landscaping is in place.

Yes. I have excellent partnerships with specialist nurseries who provide the best plants at an economical rate.

My work is focused in Somerset, Wiltshire and the Cotswolds – though for the a particularly exciting project I would travel further!  After my initial visit most of steps one, three and four can be completed remotely. The nurseries I use will deliver all over the country.

I work to clarify the ‘soul’ of a garden. This is the particular character that is unique to your space. I ensure that the hard landscaping, planting, surrounding landscape and your needs all work together so that the garden feels ‘right’ and settled.
